#16: The Historical Saga of Dharahara Tower

Constructed in 1932 by Bhimsen Thapa, Nepal’s chief minister, Dharahara Tower dominated Kathmandu’s skyline for almost 200 years. A marvel, it featured nine stories and a daunting 213-step spiral staircase, inviting the daring to ascend its peak.

Located in the earthquake-prone Himalayan Valley, Dharahara Tower faced numerous natural threats. Despite surviving several quakes, tragedy struck on April 25, 2015, when a devastating 7.8-magnitude earthquake demolished this iconic landmark, leaving Nepal to mourn its loss.
