#28: Air Guitar Competition
We promised you weird competitions, and we’re delivering. This isn’t exactly a music competition, and it’s not a dance competition, either. It’s something in-between. Contestants are required to play an imaginary guitar in a heavy metal style, which includes a lot of body and head movements. Strumming and picking motions are included, as well as lip-syncing.

This sounds like a rock music competition for people who don’t know how to play an instrument. The first competition was held in 1996 in Finland as part of the Oulu Music Video Festival. Since then, the competition has spread to the U.S. and is held here annually. The winner of the U.S. Air Guitar Championship competes for the world title.
