#22: Microwaves
Microwaves, a staple in every kitchen regardless of economic status, owe their existence to a serendipitous discovery. In 1945, while working at Raytheon, Perry Spencer incidentally found that a radar he was developing melted a chocolate bar in his pocket. This unexpected event led to the invention of the microwave, transforming kitchens worldwide.
This intriguing discovery prompted Perry Spencer and Raytheon to explore and harness this technology. By 1946, they unveiled the first microwave, dubbed the “Radarange,” initially developed for commercial use in restaurants and aircraft. Over time, this innovative appliance became a household essential, revolutionizing cooking and heating food in homes and offices globally.
