Monkey Buffet Festival
This festival is actually cruelty-free, despite what its name might suggest. You give a buffet to a bunch of monkeys, and that is it. The downside is that the monkeys don’t get to roam around and choose their food, although that would be a sight to see. Maybe if they bring in trained monkeys, things will be different, but who knows.
Thousands of people gather at the sight of the buffet, and bring food. Even local chefs participate in the event, by preparing delicacies for the monkeys. You can usually spot fruit salad, many Thai desserts, and even white rice. The first monkey buffet was thrown in 1989, and since then, it has become a yearly practice. It is incredible to see different cultures of the world acknowledging their unique fauna and how they go to express their gratitude to Mother Nature for it.
