#39: Laughter and Connection
Laughter is contagious, but did you know it can also reveal a lot about our relationships and attractions? In a group, whenever someone cracks a joke and the group laughs, the first person they look at is who they’re most comfortable, closest, or most attracted to. This reaction is called the “laughter glance.”

It’s a subtle but revealing indicator of our social dynamics and relationships. By looking at the person we’re most comfortable or closest to, we’re unconsciously seeking their approval and validation, and showing them that we value their opinion and presence. Next time you crack a joke with your friends, pay attention at who’s looking at you!
