#20: Your Slime is Up

Nickelodeon’s green slime originated from the 1979 Canadian show You Can’t Do That on Television, which aired on Nickelodeon. Often, a character would answer, “I don’t know,” and then get green slime poured on them. The slime became a staple of the network, featured in game shows like Double Dare and Figure it Out. There was even an early 2000s show called Slime Time Live, which ended with 762 people getting slimed.

So, how is this scary? While many kids wanted to be covered in slime, others imagined themselves walking around the street, and then the Slime Gods poured it all over them. It doesn’t help that I can’t find a straight answer as to what this slime is made from. Some sources say it’s sugar water, others say it’s vanilla pudding, oatmeal, applesauce, and food coloring mix. Then you get claims that it’s toxic!
