Many of us Baby Boomers remember our grandparents reminiscing about “the good old days.” Most of us would roll our eyes or start thinking about something else while our beloved elders would talk about how different the world had become. Years later, many of us find ourselves in the exact same position as our parents and grandparents. There will always be a special place in our hearts for the good old days and special memories of things that just aren’t around anymore. While change is good, it’s also nice to look back and reminisce about certain things from the past that have shaped us into who we are today. Whether you’re reminiscing about the good old days or sharing these gems with younger generations, get ready for a nostalgic journey with these instantly recognizable photographs from the past.
#1: Raise the Roof
Now, this image might not be instantly recognizable to all boomers. However, if you grew up in certain areas of the United States, this old photo definitely brings back memories. This photo is of a good old-fashioned barn raising. In case you have never had the privilege of experiencing such a gathering, allow us to fill you in.
A barn raising is a community gathering where neighbors, family, and friends get together to literally raise a barn. How else do you think our hard-working farmers were able to build such impressive structures? There’s something inherently nostalgic about a group of neighbors getting together for a common goal. Whatever happened to that willingness to help? We sure do miss that.
