Star Wars Secrets That Blew My Mind Like The Death Star

November 15, 2011 by Shelly Thomason

Diverse Film Language

Star Wars introduced a lot of made up languages during its run. Although the movie still used English, it was referred to as Galactic Basic. Some of the languages introduced were Shyriiwook (spoken by Chewbacca and other Wookies), droidspeak (spoken by R2-D2 and BB-8), Ewokese (spoken by Ewoks), and Huttlese (spoken by Jabba the Hutt).

This is because, according to George Lucas, director of the film, he wanted the Star Wars universe to be as foreign as possible. A lot of common languages that were mixed to the Star Wars languages included phrases from Sanskrit, Dutch, and other Central American and Himalayan languages. The most common example is Darth Vader, whose name is actually a direct translation of ‘father’ in Dutch.
