A moldy sponge?

One internet user unwrapped a gift given to them by a friend who recently visited Asia. The friend left them the gift without any context, hoping that the OP would happily chomp down on the thing. If you have friends, your first instinct should be to not do as they say. If possible, ask the internet for confirmation before trusting your friends.

And that’s what the OP did. Luckily for them, they didn’t need to. This moldy sponge-like contraption was actually a red sugar stone, a common sweet in some parts of China. However, we’re not sure whether the green growth is a part of it or not. So, the OP made the right decision to not blindly nibble on this thing.
