We’ve talked about some of the loopholes in the self-checkout counter, and here’s another one. It allows you to not pay for a bag. You can choose zero bags when you’ve actually used five, and no one is enforcing it.

These self-checkouts are usually found in big retail stores, and we know these chains don’t lose a lot of money even if most customers end up not paying for bags, so you could argue it’s a victimless crime. Still, we always feel self-conscious about stealing anything from the store, including paper bags.
