#21: Virtual Boy (1995-1996)
The Nintendo Virtual Boy came out in Japan in ’95 and the US in ’96 and was Nintendo’s attempt at a VR headset using mounted goggles that gave its games a 3D effect. But in the ‘90s, the technology wasn’t there. The Virtual Boy was clunky, could only show colors in red and black, and made people’s eyes hurt.

When it came out, it was quite expensive as well, going for $179.95—or around $370 today. Only 22 games were made for the Virtual Boy, and most of them were considered low-quality. However, some games, like Virtual Boy Wario Land and Jack Bros., have a cult following.
