Accents Are Not General, Nor Are They Voluntary
Accents are not ubiquitous, nor are they acquired voluntarily by the speaker. There are a lot of different things that contribute to a person’s accent as they get older. Each and every accent is deserving of affection. Having said that, it is quite evident that the internet holds the opinion that particular accents are superior to others, while other accents deserve to be dragged through the dirt for the lack of correct enunciation.
The unfortunate reality for Americans is that their language is frequently made fun of since many of their words appear to be missing vowels. This is a common reason for this ridicule. Take, for instance, this post that was uploaded to Tumblr as an example. Thus we can conclude that accents are not general, nor are they voluntary.
