If you enjoy traveling around the world and seeing where some of your favorite movies were filmed, then you’re going to love our list of abandoned movie sets you can visit! We’ve searched all over to bring you some of the coolest old movie sets that anyone can venture out to see.

Usually, the movie sets for popular movies are taken down after the final segment is filmed, but in some rare cases, the movie sets are left standing for fans to take a look at. We’re not sure why some movie sets are left abandoned, perhaps budget constraints or contracts that require the set to stay standing once filming is complete.

Mos Espa Set from ‘Star Wars: The Phantom Menace’

Venture on over to Africa where you can see the Mos Espa Set from Star Wars in Tunisia near the Sahara desert. While this particular film did rely more on computer-generated environments, they did have a movie set in the desert for some of the scenes. You can visit the Mos Espa set in Tunisia to step back into the childhood life of the Jedi in ‘Star Wars: The Phantom Menace’.

‘The Hills Have Eyes’ Gas Station

If you’re a fan of the film, ‘The Hills Have Eyes’, then you’re in for a treat. Located just outside of Ouarzazate, Morocco, you’ll find a US-themed gas station and diner in a remote location that was used during the filming of this movie. Visitors can visit this abandoned piece of ‘The Hills Have Eyes’ movie set whenever they’re up for the trip.

Hawthorne Plaza Mall from ‘Gone Girl’

Take a trip to Hawthorne, California where you can visit the abandoned movie set of the Hawthorne Plaza Mall featured in ‘Gone Girl’. The scene where police visited an abandoned mall raised goosebumps in may fans of ‘Gone Girl’ and now you can visit this scene, but fans aren’t allowed to venture inside this crumbling building for safety reasons.

The District 12 village from ‘The Hunger Games’

Do you want to see District 12 Village from the popular movie ‘The Hunger Games’? If so, you’re in luck. This abandoned movie set is located in an actual ghost town in North Carolina that was abandoned in 1987. This location is currently owned by nearby citizens who want to use this location, not only for a fun attraction for ‘The Hunger Games’ fans but to help educate others on the history of this town.

The Bus Scene from ‘The Fugitive’

You can visit the bus scene from the 1993 film ‘The Fugitive’ as part of your abandoned movie sets adventure. The scene in the film shows fugitive Richard Kimball leaping from a transport bus just as it collides with a freight train. This movie set scene is still alive and well just outside of Dillsboro, North Carolina for fans to check out.
