They got trapped
The UPS driver wedged the package under the doorknob, thinking that this would make it easier for the residents to find. But if the residents were trapped inside, they wouldn’t be able to open the door and get out.
By never letting them see the delivery man, they’ll never know what he looks like. Maybe the maintenance guy who came to save them was the one who took this photo to show them why they were trapped.
