A squeegee handle saved six men from the World Trade Center tragedy
Who would have thought that such an ordinary object like a squeegee could have saved six lives? On September 11, 2001, this humble tool was the reason why six men could escape the World Trade Center tragedy.
On that day, Jan Demczur, a window washer, found himself trapped in an elevator with five other men. He used his squeegee’s handle to pry open the elevator door and cut through the drywall before finally escaping through he hole he had created. The building collapsed soon after he had gotten out.
