Extra shifts at work are a typical occurrence at most companies. Someone may be unwell or have an event they can’t miss, so someone else is asked to take the shift. There usually isn’t a problem when this is done responsibly.

To us, this is not the employee’s fault in the least. When you text your employee at 3:30 am the next day to arrange a surprise shift, it’s much. You’d set your alarm for later or not if you weren’t working one day. We recommend that management work through their problems before chastising their staff for mistakes.
