We all know that Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the past Academy Awards over a comment Rock made about Jada Pinkett Smith’s hair, but what’s been happening since? Let’s recap all you need to know about the beef between Chris Rock and Will Smith from the start until now.
Chris Rock made a joke about the fact that Jada Pinkett Smith was bald during the Academy Awards, and up came Will Smith to defend his wife soon after. The actor in fact slapped Chris across the face, and soon after won an Oscar award for one of the categories.

This was stunning to the audience, and according to Will Smith quite a daze. He opened up recently about the event after silence from both sides for a while, stating he didn’t apologize sooner because he was “in a fog” during the awards ceremony.
Smith’s Instagram video addressed Rock and his fans directly, calling the act unacceptable and claiming that he was there for when Chris Rock was ready to or wanted to talk. There hasn’t been any reply from the comedian.
It seems that Rock wants nothing to do with Will Smith right now, as he himself has given off in energy and as some of his close loved ones have seemed to tell or imply to reporters since the event. But nobody is completely sure as he has been fairly quiet.
Initial apologies were in fact made by Will Smith after the event, addressing the action and stating it was clearly not okay as well as that the world needed love and kindness. And again later on, as family members of the comedian spoke up.
Rock’s mother and brother both spoke on the issue and how badly it hurt them to see their loved one be hurt in that way by Smith. Each time they spoke up fans would discuss the issue even deeper, and Smith did try to apologize publicly to the both.
Since then, even though Chris Rock shows utter silence towards Will Smith and his attempted apologies he has continued to perform and do comedy which has led to some one-liners about the situation as well as briefly saying he was fine and healed.
For now, the comedian has said he won’t get brought down by it and will continue to do his comedy tour to keep making people laugh and doing what he likes to do best. It’s how the comedian is coping, while Smith suffers heavy consequences in his career for the action.
The actor is banned from Academy Awards ceremonies for quite some time as well as suffering in his upcoming movies’ projected outcomes for box office or views. It seems to most of the onlookers that the recent apology is just another attempt for the public to clear him.
Most people are saying Will Smith doesn’t truly want to be forgiven by Rock but more so by the public so his career doesn’t suffer so badly and the ongoing discussions will quiet some, which is pretty believable knowing celebrity culture and actions.

Overall, we don’t know what’s next for both of them. It seems Will is going to continue to do his acting as usual and Chris will do the same in his own occupation. Whether the two will ever be on better terms again, nobody knows.
