One stereotype about girls during the 90s and 00s was that of the airhead, also known as “the valley girl.” This stereotype played up to the idea that girls couldn’t speak properly and just used lots of filler words such as “like” and “so” in their speech, which some people took as meaning that women were less intelligent.

But, in reality, plenty of new research indicates the opposite – people who use filler words tend to be more intelligent than those who don’t use these conversational features. Anyone who hates the valley girl voice can, like, totally take that! This is a stigma that needs to die out already – it’s not truthful.
