This storyteller grew up with some very religious neighbors. One year, someone gave out full-length Bibles for Halloween instead of candy. That’s one expensive Halloween treat! We can’t imagine someone investing that much money in Halloween trick-or-treating at that scale. Maybe they got a bunch of free books from their community church or something.

However they procured their free Bibles, the neighborhood kids did not appreciate it. No matter what their religious affiliation was, no kid wanted a free book on Halloween. They want to go home and fall into a sugar-induced slumber, not stay up reading their favorite passages from a famous book.
