#32: The Nose Knows

This person was sitting in their living room one day, fuming about how certain words are spelled. She did what any sane person does nowadays when they want to complain: she took to Twitter. The word she was so upset about is with her at all times, following her around. In fact, this word follows all of us around.

Rhianon really, really needs to know why “nose” isn’t spelled with a “-ze” and is instead spelled with a “-se” at the end. We also wanted to know since we use our noses every day, so we looked it up. According to Speak More Clearly, an “s” makes a “z” sound when it comes after a vowel. So, that’s why “nose” sounds like it should be pronounced as “noze.”
