#11: Piracy is a Crime It’s no secret that piracy is illegal, and yet it’s still a common problem. Former FBI and CIA agents weren’t allowed to tell us the full extent of the damage caused by pirating, but it’s safe to say that it’s a serious crime. Not only does it cost the entertainment industry billions of dollars each year, it also undermines the safety of the public by making it easier for criminals to access copyrighted content. Agents had to remain tight-lipped about the details of their investigations into piracy, but they did warn us that it’s a crime that should not be taken lightly.
The FBI and CIA are known for their strict rules and regulations, but one thing they definitely weren’t allowed to tell us when they were on the job was that piracy is a crime. Yes, that means downloading music, movies, and other copyrighted material without paying for it is totally illegal. Not only is it illegal, but you could also face hefty fines and even prison time if you’re caught. So if you’re thinking about taking a chance and illegally downloading something, think again – it’s not worth the risk!
