A Warehouse Kind of Day
“I used to work at a small, family-owned grocery store for a few years. Our shipments arrived on Mondays and Thursdays, but there was a mishap one Monday when the distributor promised to deliver the missing load on Thursday. Consequently, on that day, we had a double load of goods, and both of my colleagues in the receiving department were absent due to illness. I found myself alone in the warehouse with the task of handling over 15 pallets of groceries that needed to be promptly stocked on the shelves.”

“I was explicitly instructed not to leave the warehouse area. While I was in the middle of processing the pallets, I received a summons to come up front. A new employee with a disagreeable attitude chastised me, but I returned to my station. Shortly after, the newly appointed manager confronted me about having an earbud in while on the clock. In response, I gestured toward the stacks of pallets and said, “Feel free to give it a try; all of these need to be checked in and unpacked. Enjoy!”
