#19: Keeping a Safe Distance
This next one is honestly just sad. For a variety of reasons, there are fewer men than women in the teaching field, and for a variety of reasons, those men can be viewed with more suspicion than their female counterparts are. It’s sad that this leads teachers to feel like the person below: that they cannot interact with their students in the way that they want to because it could be misconstrued, and they could end up losing their jobs.
But on the other hand, there are bad apples out there, so it’s important to keep a certain amount of vigilance in teacher-student relationships. So there’s not really a good solution. The bad ones ruin it for everyone else because when it comes to a child’s safety, you’d rather be safe than sorry.
