#4: World Pea-Shooting Championship
Every second Saturday in July, the village of Witcham, England, gears up to host the World Pea Shooting Championship. The whole shenanigan started when a local schoolmaster, Mr. Tyson, caught his students shooting peas at each other in 1971. The competition became so popular that it still takes place annually, even after the schoolmaster died in 2003.
These specially designed breath-powered pea-shooters are not helping us take this competition any more seriously. You would think that people don’t want to see such things, but it is precisely what hundreds of people gather yearly to prove wrong. All you have to do is sign up through the village’s website and try to hit a target with your breath and some peas.
