#12: Sri Chinmoy Self-Transcendence 3,100-Mile Race
This is the longest race in the world, as it lasts 52 days. Unlike many other forms of race, this one is different in that it incorporates a spiritual approach to cleansing one’s soul of desires and self. Contestants are also able to test their strengths in a variety of ways during the ultra-marathon. Each player has to cover 3,100 miles in 52 days. It comes down to 59.6 miles per day. The race starts at 6 am each day and can continue till midnight. Runners are allowed to take extended breaks throughout the day.

This event was created by Sri Chinmoy in 1996 as a 2700-mile race but later extended to 3100 miles. The race takes place in Queens, New York, from June to August. Since not everyone can be a part of such an extreme sport, contestants are selected out of a handful. Usually, it is only about 10 to 15 people.
