#12: Sri Chinmoy Self-Transcendence 3,100-Mile Race
This is the longest race in the world, as it lasts 52 days. Unlike many other forms of race, this one is different in the way that it incorporates a spiritual approach to cleansing one’s soul of desires and self. Contestants are also able to test their strengths in a variety of ways during the ultra-marathon. Each player has to cover 3,100 miles in 52 days. It comes down to 59.6 miles per day. The race starts at 6 am each day and can continue till midnight. Runners are allowed to take extended breaks throughout the day.
This event was created by Sri Chinmoy in 1996 as a 2700-mile race but later extended to 3100 miles. The race takes place in Queens, New York, from June to August. Since not everyone can be a part of such an extreme sport, contestants are selected out of a handful. Usually, it is only about 10 to 15 people.
