Why is it that school and office supplies back in the day were so often built like they were meant to withstand the apocalypse? I’m not talking about cutesy unicorn-covered tape dispensers that the students had, but the massive, dark, heavy staplers and tape dispensers in the staff room at any elementary school.

And no piece of equipment was more over-the-top heavy-duty than paper cutters. I swear, you could cut your finger off with one of those if you weren’t careful. I guess that’s why they were in the staff room, not out where the kids could get at them.
