Today, the technology of video calls seems so obvious and mundane that it almost seems outdated. But there was a time, not that long ago, when video calls seemed like a futuristic invention. The Picturephone was invented by Bell Labs in 1956 and seemed like the future. In the early 1960s, AT&T operated video rooms in NYC, allowing visitors to use these public picturephones to connect with their loved ones.
