#10: The History of Nintendo
Before the Game Boy, GameCube, and Switch, Nintendo was just a simple playing card company. Can you believe the gaming giant was founded in 1889? It’s true! Fusajiro Yamauchi founded the company in Kyoto, Japan, where the corporation headquarters are still located. Nintendo’s playing cards were so successful that they eventually produced other games and toys.
It’s amazing to think that Nintendo was almost 100 years old by the time it produced its first gaming console. The Magnavox Odyssey was first released in 1972, and the rest is history. Nintendo is a testament to how successful pivoting can help a company last for over a century. Imagine if Nintendo didn’t embrace technological advances and stuck to paper playing cards!
