But what works for decluttering doesn’t always work for your real life. Sometimes, you have to keep things around—routines, behaviors—not because they bring you joy but because they are vital. Does a colonoscopy spark joy? Of course not. But you have to take a long-term view and see that many things have a value that has nothing to do with whether or not they’re pleasant.
