Following the news, Alfie became the target of derision. The media and his companions mocked him and turned him into someone he had never been before. Maisie taught him to be a responsible and sympathetic individual. In some respects, she transformed him into a person.
After the results were published, he was not allowed to be within a hundred yards of Maisie. He entered a period of despair and wouldn’t leave his home. He avoided school during this time since he wanted the news to die down. Alfie was in the midst of a severe case of depression, as he had not yet physically grown up.
