Carleton Villa in New York
The Carleton Villa has to be one of the most beautiful mansions we’ve ever laid eyes on. This house is located on Carleton Island in New York and was constructed in 1894 by William Wyckoff. Sadly, a year before the Wyckoff family was going to move in, his wife passed away in her sleep. He’d meet the same fate not long after.
The deed landed in the hands of their son, but he had to sell it due to the Great Depression. General Electric was ready to scoop the piece of property up, but when World War 2 started, the company scrapped plans to turn the mansion into a retreat for its executives.
