Tightrope attempts
The pull of the Falls is strongest for those who have a little bit of adventurer in their blood. In the recorded history of Niagara Falls there have been 5 tightrope walkers who have made their way across the gap at the very edge, beginning with Charles Blondin in 1859.
He carefully stepped over wearing pink tights on a line that was less than 1 inch thick. He then repeated the journey twice, once with a blindfold. Fast forward to the present day and Nik Wallender’s costume wasn’t as snazzy, but the stunt was just as impressive and watched by thousands of people.
