The Ellen Meme
This article wouldn’t be complete without the controversial Ellen meme. Back in 2016, when the internet was overflowing with Usain Bolt memes (all the meme lovers out there were having a field day with this iconic smile photo!), TV host Ellen DeGeneres wanted to get in on the fun, so she posted a meme on her show’s Twitter page.
However, what was supposed to be a hip and funny tweet backfired as many Twitter users criticized her humor, saying that a white, privileged woman riding on the back of a black man for errands isn’t funny.
