Milana Once Felt Like an Outsider

Moving cities is one thing but to move to another country that is so culturally different from your own can be quite overwhelming. While Milana’s parents did everything to provide for her, she did find it difficult to fit in with other kids her age. One memory that Milana has from her childhood is of her beach towel and how it made her feel like an outsider.

Apparently, all her classmates had colorful beach towels with Disney characters on them while hers was orange and white and reminded her of a “Slavic doily.” It may not seem like much now but back then she was embarrassed because the towel made it obvious that she wasn’t from around there.
