When texting, though it’s easier to write the minimum, sometimes it’s better to elaborate, as to avoid such misunderstandings. Also, as we’ve seen before, some things are better to say in a phone call – calling and explaining he was planning on buying his sister a new phone would have prevented this kid’s dismay.

However, this father could have been a little more compassionate about his son’s disappointment. Compassion is another thing that’s hard to communicate through texting, which is another reason why sometimes, if you have a doubt, it’s better to go with a phone call.
