#26: The Disappearance of Michael Rockefeller
Michael Rockefeller, heir to a prominent American family, chose exploration over business. A Harvard graduate, he was fascinated by the Asmat people in the former Netherlands, New Guinea and distanced himself from his familial legacy to pursue cultural expeditions.
In 1961, during an expedition, Rockefeller’s canoe capsized. While his companions were rescued, he attempted to swim to safety but disappeared. His fate remains uncertain, with speculations of drowning or cannibalism. Officially declared dead in 1964, his story is shrouded in mystery.
