#15: Bret Michaels Sustains Injury During Performance
When: 63rd Tony Awards, 2009
In 2009, the lead singer of Poison, Bret Michaels, again found himself in the spotlight at the Tony Awards. Performing Poison’s anthem “Nothin’ But a Good Time” alongside Broadway’s “Rock of Ages” cast, Michaels seemed to be living up to the song’s title. However, disaster struck when he was knocked to the ground by a descending set piece at the song’s climax.
The Tonys crew claimed Michaels missed his mark, while host Neil Patrick Harris quipped about the mishap, joking that Michaels “gave headbanging a whole new meaning.” But Michaels wasn’t laughing… He fractured his nose, needed stitches in his lip, and was left fuming over the blame placed on him. In fact, he didn’t hold back, suing the show organizers and CBS over the incident.
