“I Shot the Sheriff”
Whilst there is something beautiful about different artists appreciating other artists’ work and recording covers of their music, there is something to be said for when the original artist doesn’t receive the same amount of credit. Sure, both versions can be inspiring and interesting, but surely credit should be given where credit is due.
Both Bob Marley and Eric Clapton’s versions of Marley’s original song, “I Shot the Sheriff,” are both unique and successful in their own way, but the fact that Bob Marley’s version was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame says something about that time in the music industry. Shouldn’t the person who wrote the song get some sort of recognition?
