Real Life Up
In 1982, Larry Walters captured the world’s imagination with an audacious and unconventional adventure that took him to an astounding altitude of 16,000 feet above Los Angeles, California. Using a simple lawn chair, Larry attached a cluster of weather balloons and embarked on an improbable journey into the skies.
To put it in perspective, this is roughly half the altitude of commercial airline cruising. As he ascended, Larry enjoyed a breathtaking and unobstructed view of the city below, becoming, for a brief moment, just a man in a lawn chair taking in the sights from the edge of Earth’s atmosphere. Remarkably, he safely landed after his whimsical flight.
