The Liberation Of The Bearded Lady

February 7, 2012 by Shelly Thomason

Free To Be Bearded!

Living in fear of a five o’clock shadow, a bearded woman might be obsessively checking for stubble in the mirror and shaving or plucking multiple times per day. It’s common for these women to avoid social interactions due to the stress of other people’s reactions and opinions. The resulting anxiety, isolation, and depression can be more challenging to live with than the beard itself, so the bearded ladies are breaking free!

Alma Torres (pictured above, far left) gushed on her Instagram, “I swear the 2016 picture, I look back, and I just thought of an angle that you wouldn’t be able to see the stubs or the razor burns. I think of how I hid myself for so long. It’s so crazy and now in 2019, feeling so free, I can just cry happy tears because I’m soooo much more comfortable, and I just loveeeee my beard!!”
