It’s the time of year that many people enjoy greatly; kids get their time away from school, warm weather comes, fun activities are everywhere, traveling to new places happens more, and so much else. Summertime brings joy and pastimes for people of all ages (at least if you can bear the heat that comes with it) and often means new plans for things to do during your days. But there are also plenty of things we don’t know about this season or that can be pretty interesting to think about.

These fun facts can help you get in the summer mindset, learn something new, or share something cool with your friends and family about summertime season. Here are some fun facts about summer you may not know.

Growing Monument

The Eifel Tower is a well-known monument that many of us learn about and love to see photos of from travels. Some of us have gotten lucky enough to travel all the way to Paris to see the Eifel Tower for ourselves or are planning to go there someday in the future. What most of you didn’t know is that this monument actually grows up to 6 inches taller every summer. This is due to the heat making the metal of the Eifel Tower expand which can add height.

Television Pause

Not that long ago, television channels used to only show reruns of shows all through the summertime. This was to encourage people to enjoy being outdoors and doing fun things away from TV during this time, and also because many people were already doing that so television shows didn’t get as much watch time anyways. Some channels still do, like how Nickelodeon will turn off shows for some parts of summer and tell kids to get outside and have fun.

Interesting Month Origins

June and July, the true heat of our summertime, have some interesting history behind their names and origins. June was named after the Roman goddess Juno, who was considered a queen of the gods in a way and had great importance in Roman mythology. The Romans also named July after something, but July was named after Julius Caesar by a Roman general. Pretty random to think about, but definitely super interesting to know where these odd names came from!

Getting in a good mindset for summer can happen in a multitude of ways depending on your mood or what you have planned, but these cool tidbits could help you or someone you know with getting into that groove for this summer season. It’s a perfect time to take hold of opportunities in entertainment, travel, family time, and overall enjoyment for those of us that can do so with home or work schedules either by ourselves or with friends and family members nearby; so hopefully this list of cool fun facts about summer can give you some new knowledge and some inspiration for your coming plans this season. You can even share this article with friends and family to spread summertime learning and interests all around this year!
