From the Golden Globes to the Academy Awards: Best Red Carpet Dresses

February 5, 2017 by Miranda Hill

59. Cate Blanchett, 2016

At the end of the day, celebrities don’t dress to kill, they dress to have people talk about them. Cate Blanchett certainly achieved that with her 2016 Academy Awards red carpet look – opinions of the dress were controversial, but that’s all people could talk about after the show. The two times Oscars-winner was nominated in 2016 for Best Actress, and although she didn’t win, she took first place on the Best Dressed list.

After seven nominations, you develop your own sense of style for the red carpet, and Cate Blanchett certainly has her own unique style that dazzles us every time. In 2016, she walked on the red carpet wearing a seafoam Armani Privé mermaid gown (the name speaks for itself), featuring a floral-embellished top and hand-sewed crystals by Swarovski. Say what you will about the dress, you can’t say her look doesn’t attract attention.
