In the letter to Sir Eric, her late father’s personal secretary, she went on to talk about how her mother, Elizabeth, and sister, Margaret, were a great deal of comfort for her during these trying times. They were amazing at keeping the queen entertained and helping her sort things out when George VI passed away so suddenly.
But it wasn’t just close relatives that were by her side throughout this dark period in her life. Even extended family stayed around to help in whatever way they could. This helped her transition into her position as queen and became accustomed to new responsibilities much quicker.
