US State Georgia Executes Its Oldest Death Row Inmate

February 3, 2016 by Kelly Davies Leave a Comment

US state Georgia executes its oldest death row inmate. 72-year-old Brandon Astor Jones and a father of four was executed by lethal injection in the early hours of Wednesday at a prison in Jackson. Brandon was sentenced 36 years ago, for killing a shop manager during a robbery. Jones was the 38th inmate put to death by lethal injection.

Some of his friends and family members visited him just before his death, as did his lawyer and an investigator. He was convicted in 1979 with Van Roosevelt Solomon, for killing a store manager Roger Tackett.

Jones and Solomon were arrested at the store by a cop who had driven a stranded motorist there to use a pay phone. Roosevelt Solomon was executed in Georgia’s electric chair in February 1985.
