Just some couple of hours ago, Russian war jet SU-24 was brought down over the rebel territory around Latakia by the Turkish army who claimed the war plane violated their airspace and ignored several warnings.
In response to the attack, Vladimir Putin, the Russian president has warned there will be serious consequences, he said the incident was a “stab in the back” that must be meet with “very serious consequences” and is likely to damage the relations between the two countries. Putin also accused Turkey of being “accomplices of terrorists.”
In the statement he made during a meeting with King Abdullah II of Jordan, Putin said “Neither our pilots nor our jet threatened the territory of Turkey,” he also add “This is obvious. They are fighting terrorists in the northern areas around Latakia, where militants are located, mainly people who originated in Russia, and they were pursuing their direct duty, to make sure these people do not return to Russia.”
“These are people who are clearly international terrorists.”
According to CNN, NATO has called for emergency meeting later today to discuss the incident and find possible solution for situation it may bring.
