And auctions pop up around the globe for important celebrity’s vehicles or modified vehicles that people find good value in. Recently, a major sale at auction caught the attention of the whole world both for its price point and the significance of the vehicle’s previous owner, having once belonged to Princess Diana of Wales.
Princess Diana was a major figure in history because of her progressive thinking and work for others, and because of how she passed. The late Princess Diana dearly loved her Ford Escort RS Turbo when she used it from 1985 until 1988.
The Royal Family member used to vastly prefer driving herself around to spend time with friends or be out and about in town, but security risks made the rest of the family at the time quite concerned.
Diana was often seen driving with a Royal Protection Command member riding in the passenger seat for her protection, and she drove this way for around 3 years. It was one of many iconic trademarks of the Princess in her time.
There are even old photos of the car being driven by Princess Diana, and with young Prince William in the backseat. Auction runners stated that the 1985 Ford Escort was never intended for such esteemed members to be riding in or driving it, and it was an honor that she loved this car.
Even with her known love for the car, when Princess Diana’s car finally made it to auction recently it was only expected to make no more than 100 euros. But the finalized sale was 650 thousand euros, which is equivalent to almost 800 thousand United States dollars.
Despite the fact that many owners have passed through this car since Princess Diana’s time owning it, the car only has less than 25 thousand miles which is insanely low for a 1985 vehicle. It’s in pristine condition and the auction winner definitely got a great vehicle.
As far as the auction company that ran this show, Silverstone Auctions which has dealt with many Royal Family vehicles and other vehicles of importance, this car truly once belonged to an icon and it checked off all their boxes in condition and history. It was a unique piece of history that not only once held the daughter of an Earl and a future King but stands unique in condition and rarity. With such a price point, this was definitely a major interesting event!
