5 tightrope attempts
Throughout Niagara Falls’ relatively young history, there have been five instances of tightrope walkers making their way across the falls’ brinks. The first tightrope walker, Charles Blondin, did the deed in 1859 while sporting pink tights and walking across a line less than an inch thick. Charles went on to repeat his stunt two more times, once while wearing a blindfold!
The most recent case was in 2012 where Nik Wallenda performed the stunt in front of a live audience. Tens of thousands of attendees saw Nik walk the rope and make it to safety on the other side.
