Removing the talus buildup
Reinforcing certain parts of the falls wasn’t the only item on the engineers’ agenda. They also had to find a way to stop the buildup of loose rocks. Over time, the loose rocks would make their way down the falls and limit the height of the drop. However, this was a lot easier said than done.
After assessing how much talus was actually in the riverbed, it turned out the engineers had quite a task ahead of them. Moving so much loose debris would not only take forever but also exceed their project’s budget. And after further inspection, the talus was actually reinforcing the waterfall’s cliffs!
