Celebrities have been a large pillar of communities and of society as a whole for decades. Many people want to know how to achieve their success and money in the world, and that draws a great deal of attention and adoration from millions. Celebs draw in finances from the attention from their fans; whether it be through concerts, buying their creations and merchandise, attending events, watching their ads and films or shows, and more. So what’s happening with the public attitude towards these folk?
In 2020, the world was rocked by a major pandemic that still continues to exist and impact millions all around the world over a year later. During this time, people were mandated to stay home and follow guidelines that reduced the risk of spread of the virus. However, celebrities were either not following these orders or preaching how helpful staying home is while living above the means of many families that couldn’t stay at home because of their families’ needs or situations. It created a small rift in the public adoration of these individuals that we started to notice.
Since then, many already established and trying to become established famous folk have lost or stuttered in wages because of the shifts in what is or isn’t allowed with regulations and guidelines in place right now. Concerts and events were stopped entirely for so long, that finding new footing is becoming increasingly difficult. Celebs also had to reconfigure or create entirely new marketing strategies to stay afloat.
Even more recently, many people are becoming more and more resentful or at least distant from these once idolized individuals. They’re watching more and more proof that celebrities are out of touch with reality and don’t often care about people below them except as money generators. Incredibly recent events like a certain concert that caused multiple deaths and multiple celebrity parties that had no consideration for local guidelines for the pandemic are huge factors in this.
There are still plenty of folk out there that enjoy what celebrities bring to the entertainment and social media industry, as well as their products from businesses created by these individuals. And many celebrities still have a great deal of fans. If anything, people are more shifting to a different celebrity climate but not necessarily completely out of celebrities as a whole.
What it means as a whole is not quite determined yet since everything in the world is still moving and changing due to recent world and local events or actions. But we do know something is certainly changing from the usual massive adoration and idolization of celebrities that used to come from the world.
