Thousands of Indians travel every year to southern city of Hyderabad, to swallow fish stuffed with a yellow herbal paste, in the hope it will help cure their asthma.
The specific dates of which are determined by the onset of the monsoon every June, for the free medicine during a two-day period.
5cm fish are slipped into the patient’s throat, often leaving them gagging. After digesting the treatment, patients are told to go on a strict diet for 45 days and are to continue with the treatment for three years to permanently cure them from asthma.
The 156-year-old treatment from Hindu saint contains a secret formula of herbs which is administered by the Bathini Goud family, the secret formula of herbs, handed down by generations only to family members.
